Poster Art by Januszkiewicz

THE PROJECT: An independent film highlighting the relationship between a musician, jazz great Matthew Shipp, and his instrument, the piano.  The short film is scripted under 40 minutes and produced to the highest standards with an avant-garde flair.

THE TEAM: The production team for this film consists of a top pianist, Matthew Shipp, and the independent filmmaker, Barbara Januszkiewicz. This fusion of two incredible artistic talents give this film great potential to become a breakout art piece.

THE ORIGINALITY: The film will be created by 2 artists solely committed to their crafts and the independent nature of this project will allow them to express themselves in the most honest way. Imagine witnessing creativity in its highest form, both in execution and subject matter.

THE FAZIOLI: The co-star, the piano has its own life. The Fazioli and Shipp will be an iconic pair: one of the most renowned jazz pianists playing on the most beautifully crafted piano with a clear, pristine sound. The spotlight between the two is shared equally. The genius eminates from Shipp, with the piano as both his inspiration and and his mode of expression.

Matthew Shipp is a native of Wilmington, Delaware. His love for jazz began at the age of 12 and at 24 he moved to New York to become one of the highlights of the jazz world. His style is all his own. He has recorded a number of CDs with various labels, eventually continuing on to become curator and director of the label Thirsty Ear’s “Blue Series.” A New York avant-garde jazz pianist, his music evokes the full scale of human emotion from listeners. He is truly one of the leading lights in a new generation of jazz giants.

Barbara Januszkiewicz has achieved distinction as a multimedia artist, filmmaker, visual journalist, and teacher with a passion for encouraging creative expression. Her works appear at the Phillips Collection, Corcoran Gallery of Art, and Gallery K. Her new works show a fusion of jazz and painting. This helped open up dialogues and collaborations with organizations like the American Jazz Museum as a resident artist. Her work has shown nonconventional interpretations of movement and music with energy in this innovative interpretation of transmedia.
